Sophia is pretty happy that she has the freedom of speech. (Stop Laughing. I mean it, STOP.) But we did discuss the fact that just because it isn't against the laws of our country does not mean we get to do whatever we want without consequences. We discussed what it really means to have the freedom of worship, and contrasted our country to some countries that don't have these freedoms. What would it be like to be a Christian in these countries? Whose laws are higher, man's or God's? Are lies ever okay, even in a situation like this? Good discussion.
We have also been going through the Old Testament in our Study Bible (HIGHLY recommended) and are finishing up Jonah. Both of these books are great jumping off points to explore not only historical events, but why they are relevant to each individual child today. The discussion is where the learning takes place. The one on one between parent and child. I have learned so much with my children, and am thankful for every minute... and the freedom that we have as Americans to be homeschoolers.
