We have a saying at our house: "It's not something to be afraid of, it's something to be careful of." Whenever I explain something potentially frightening to our young children (what to do if you find a snake in the backyard, yes there really are "naughty guys" in the world, etc.), we always make sure to end with:
Me: "But that's not something to be afraid of...."
Kids: "...just something to be careful of."
It started just by making a point. WE DO NOT WALK IN FEAR! Things in this world can be dangerous and frightening, but that does not mean that we need to be scared of them!
We have not been given a spirit of fear... but a spirit of power, love, sound mind, discipline, and self control.
We know what to do with fear and worry... it has no place. We make our requests to God with thanksgiving, and whatever is good, we think about that.
We cast down our (ungodly) imaginations and bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Christians, even children, should not be scared of the world God made for them. Let's arm them with the knowledge that He is in control of all things. Whether or not we can act in any worrysome situation, we should not forget God's will for us in Christ. Children were never meant to be given the knowledge of the things of this world without the knowledge of the One who holds it together! That makes for terrified children.
It took me many years to overcome fear. At some points in my life I felt as though I would drown in it. "Don't be scared" or "it's okay" means absolutely nothing without Christ. But when I met the Lord I learned something very important... His word is alive and will not return void. It is what it says it is and it will accomplish what it says it will! Hallelujah!

Well, someone was filled with the Holy Spirt last night. Great post baby.
Exactly! If we raise those babies with such fear and without the Lord we make for weak grown people with so many issues later. :)
